How to Beat the Stress of Christmas

Author: Tina Banks

It seems that no longer is Summer over with, Christmas is here and there is nothing done to prepare for the big day, especially as we are all so busy with other commitments. In past years, I have promised myself to be more organized; yet I always find myself in the same situation. However, not anymore! Use this lest of ideas to help you become more organized.

1) It may sound obvious but the best way to plan and organize Christmas is to make plenty of lists. Once you have done this make sure you know where youve put them! There is nothing worse than making a detailed list and then losing it. Things you need to think about include Christmas cards, gifts for your family and friends, Christmas decorations, and food for the masses that tend to descend at this time of year.

2) Buying your cards in the January sales means that you can save lots of money and they are there waiting for you when Christmas comes around. Dont forget to set time aside to write the cards and make sure that your have enough stamps. Why not rent your favorite movie and write the cards while you watch it. Youd be surprised how quickly the time will go.

3) Buying presents for people requires the most organization. Again, its a good idea to keep a look out during the sales throughout the year to pick up little bits and pieces for the familys stockings, which will help the spread the cost. If the thought of the crowds leaves you wishing you could stay at home, start shopping as early as possible. By getting your gifts earlier, you could prevent a lot of stress and even find yourself enjoying Christmas shopping. Overseas relatives can catch you out. Remember to make sure you wrap and send any gifts early enough for them to reach their destination. If you are unsure of the exact dates speak to someone at the Post Office.

4) If you plan early enough you can even make some of your presents. Why not make a gift basket for someone full of their favorite foods, wine and other treats. This is a really unique way of making someone feel special and loved.

5) Shopping online is another way to combat crowds. Sometimes you may even get an online discount. However, you also need to bear in mind the time it will take for the presents to be delivered. At busy times of the year, such as Christmas, the delivery time may be longer so make sure you allow for this.

6) Gift-wrapping can be hellish if you leave it all for one sitting. Instead, wrap as you buy the gifts, although make sure you label what you have done so there are no surprises on Christmas morning! If you are offered free gift-wrapping when buying a present, take advantage since it will be one less thing for you to think about.

7) Decorating the tree and house can be really stressful, especially with over-excited children. So why not make it into a tradition. Pick a specific day of December when you will decorate the house each year. Also, let them decorate their rooms, leaving you a little more free to do the tree and house without them getting in the way.

Hopefully you can use these tips to make your Christmas stress free and enjoyable!
