"9 Tips To Pathway Safety"

Author: Carl Ellis

1. Consider painting slippery paths with non-slip paint or roughing the concrete.

2. Use handrails where necessary-have them installed near steps and stairs. Make sure you have easy-to-grip rails next to steps and stairs.

3. Consider replacing stairs with ramps.

4. Make sure steps, paths and entrances are well lit at night.

5. Keep shrubbery clipped so that pathways and steps and windows are clear.

6. Paths covered in leaves are dangerous when wet. Outside steps and stairs are often slippery when wet. There are products available to kill moss, fungi and lichen to make these areas safer.

7. Mark the leading edges of outside steps. There are special paints and slip r esistant strips available.

8. Confine landscaping materials such as gravel and small river pebbles-they can cause falls.

9. Trailing hoses can be dangerous so winding and storing them after use is recommended.
