The best definition I've heard of the word FEAR is: Fantasized Event Appearing Real. We feel fear only when we have the time to think about something that may be about to happen - and then we make big, scary pictures in our heads about how badly it could turn out. Isn't that just what you do when you see a gorgeous woman who you'd love to date, but just can't take that first step of starting a conversation? Don't you make up a little movie in your head, which ends with you turning bright red and dying on your feet, with her and her friends laughing at you? How many times have you actually been heavily rejected that badly? Hardly ever, is my guess. Yet you insist on re-running this fantasy over and over, every time you see a beautiful woman? What sort of result do you expect when you set yourself up to fail like that? Being prepared doesn't mean rehearsing useless chat-up lines. It means being mentally prepared for that moment when you catch sight of a woman who Does It for you. Prepare yourself by practising in your head. If you find it difficult to start a conversation, don't just blurt out the first words that come to mind - say them (silently) to yourself to hear how they sound to you, then mentally put yourself in the position of someone listening to you and check how they are likely to sound to them. Develop the art of putting yourself (mentally!) in her shoes before opening your mouth and you are less likely (metaphorically) to put your foot in it. The art of 'putting yourself in her shoes' is one of the keys to successful conversation - with anyone. In simple terms it means imagining what it might be like to be that person and to hear those words being spoken to you. How would you feel? How would you be likely to respond? You have to remember that attractive women get hit on all the time. By the age of 21 they have heard everything! Don't imagine you can make up any slick lines that they haven't heard a hundred times.
