Great Dating Tips for a Woman On a First Date

Author: Cheryl Ashbrook

So you have a first date arranged. How are you feeling? Anxious? Nervous? Try not to forget, he is probably at least as nervous as you are and as keen to make the date go well. So, plan in advance and follow these tips to make you first date a memorable one.

Before you start dating, you should check out some dating safety advice. MaxMyProfile offers more tips on personal safety when dating such as arranging your own transport to and from a first date and meeting at a public place. Do not worry too much, most people are genuine and dating need not be risky, but if at any time you are concerned for you safety, make your excuses and leave.

While it sounds romantic, it is not usually a good idea to let your date surprise you about the venue for a date. If you have no idea where you are going it is virtually impossible to plan what you will wear. You will understandably want to look your best and it can be great to have a whole new outfit lined up. But make sure, while it is flattering, it is also comfortable. It is impossible to relax if your shoes have given you a blister and your skirt button is digging in!

If this is your first meeting, maybe having met through online dating or because you are on a blind date, it is a good idea for you both to give some idea of how to spot each other. Your bright pink hand bag and his stripy shirt should be enough to confirm you are looking at the right person.

It can sometimes be uncomfortable for a woman to be waiting at a pub or restaurant alone. So if this is the case for you, ask your date to arrive a few minutes early so he is there when you arrive. Swap mobile phone numbers, or take the number of the venue with you, so that you can both get in touch if either of you are delayed and will be late.

Help conversation flow by planning a few topics in advance. By asking open questions that do not allow for a yes or no answer, about his hobbies or career, you willl avoid those awkward silences that nerves can so often create.

Be honest with your date about whether you would like to meet up again. If you do not want to repeat the experience, be polite but firm and do not agree to another date to avoid hurt feelings. But if it went well and you enjoyed the date, say so, It could be the first of many!
